This database has over 69,000 records of clothing labels used in Australia and New Zealand. The database has been compiled over 20 years and is an exclusive source of information about fashion labels.
These records include uses of Brand Names, Labels and trade marks in the Australian and New Zealand Fashion Industries. Many are not registered trade marks but subject to common law rights. We have on file many unregistered trade marks that are not listed with IP Australia. Not all manufacturers register their labels as trade marks, however using them regularly they have common law rights that may go back a number of years.
It is an extensive index compiled from many different sources including manufacturers, designers and importers and is continually updated. Our database contains labels and brand names for all types of clothing, footwear and headgear, from high fashion to industrial wear. We also record how and when the label has been in use or when it was previously used.
There are two (2) ways to use the FBI.
- First, just register your label by completing the attached registration form below. Your label does not have to be a registered trade mark but if it is already used you will receive a report.
- Secondly, you can search the FBI to see whether or not your intended label is, or has been in use. This could save a lot of time and cost if you infringe another label owners common law rights.
A report will be sent to you on completion of registration along with a search of similar labels.
The cost is $58 plus GST to register or search.
